Hitting Bombs for Moms is our annual softball tournament we host on Mother’s Day. This takes place at Mossville/Medina Township softball fields.
Our 2024 tournament will take place May 11th and May 12th. It will be open to 8U, 10U, and 12U teams. It will be a 4 game guarantee tournament. 2 pool games that lead into a Gold and Silver bracket play with a 3rd place game in each bracket. Rings will be awarded to the Champions with medals awards to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams.
Tournament shirts will be available for purchase along with a $10 Home Run Derby (awards for 1st and 2nd place).
Concessions including grill will be available during the tournament.
2024 Bombs For Moms Tournament Rules
- 1 Coaches, please have team ready to play at the allotted time. Warm-up areas are available beyond the outfield fences. There will only be a short break between games, so please have pitchers warmed up and ready to start as soon as possible.
- 2 All games are 7 innings with a 1:15 minute time limit; finish the inning. USA SB Rules apply except where noted.
- 3 8U specific rules: HOI Softball League rules except: 5 run limit per inning, 6 innings / 1:15 time limit, and all other exceptions listed below.
- 4 A very brief umpire / coaches meeting will take place before each game. Game time starts at the conclusion of that meeting.
- 5 Home team is designated by the schedule (with the exception of a coin toss for the championship games).
- 6 Bat the bench and free defensive substitution format for all teams.
- 7 In the event of an injured or ill player, the player’s spot in the order can be skipped without an out, provided the team still has at least 9 players in the lineup. That player cannot re-enter for the remainder of the game (but can be in the line-up for a later game).
- 8 Courtesy runners for pitcher and catcher are allowed and should be the last completed at bat. Specifically, the courtesy runner shall be the last person who batted that is not: 1) currently on base, 2) the current pitcher or catcher, or 3) who have already courtesy-ran for the other position (pitcher or catcher) in the same inning.
- 9 Run rules: games will end if a team is up by 12 runs after 3 innings, 10 runs after 4 innings, or 8 runs after 5 innings.
- 10 In the event of a tie game at the end of regulation play, pool play games will end in a tie. Round robin and bracket games will have extra innings, starting with a last completed at bat on 2nd base.
- 11 All umpire calls are final, and any disrespectful behavior by players, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated. Violators will be ejected.
- 12 Umpires will fill out score card for each game and turn in to tournament organizers. Both coaches must confirm score by signature.
- 13 Winners in pool play and round robin formats will be determined by: 1) overall record 2) head-to-head 3) fewest runs allowed 4) fewest runs allowed in loss 5) coin flip. Top 2 teams in their pool advance to the Gold Bracket.
- 14 Rain outs: every effort will be made to play all scheduled games, and additional sites are available if needed to get the games in on a shortened schedule. If all games are not completed, refunds will be provided on the following schedule: 0 games played: 100% refund, 1 game played: 50% refund, 2 games played: 0% refund.
- 15 Home Run Derby: Each team can have up to 5 participants in the home run derby, which will take place after the games for pool 1 and before the games for pool 2 in each respective bracket as designated in the schedule. The cost to participate is $10, and you can sign up at the tournament organization table near the concession stand. Players should bring their preferred pitcher. Each player gets 10 swings, and the distance for a home run will be designated appropriately for each age group.
